The Valor Hour: Jamie Driver, Steven New, David Robins, & UFC 239 Preview

Valor HourThis week on The Valor Hour, Valor Fighting Challenge’s Tim Loy, Greg Hopkins, and Justin Watson preview UFC 239 and chat with Jamie Driver, Steven New, and David Robins about their fights at Valor Fighting Challenge 62.

The guys kick off the show chatting with Jamie Driver, who battles Olivia Parker in the co-main event at VFC 62. Jamie introduces herself, talks about her start in martial arts at age 19, growing up playing field hockey and lacrosse but not feeling it was “violent enough” for her. She talks about training for next week’s fight against Park and her experience in the cage. She says that though she’s fought some pretty big names, she doesn’t really feel she was ready for those but she’s learned from all of them and she’s good to go. She also talks about her weight cut, her “OJ” nickname, her competitive spirit, and overcoming a recent death in her family as she trains for the fight.

Next up, “Showtime” Steven New checks in to talk his upcoming fight against Tyler Smith at VFC 61. It’s been about a year since his last MMA fight but he certainly hasn’t been stagnant. In the last year, he’s made his pro boxing debut and fought in several jiu-jitsu tournaments. New talks about his matchup against Smith next week, his expectations for the fight, working on his striking, Smith’s explosive right hand, reinventing himself and getting back on track after the last few years, and more.

The final guest of the night as a familiar face to The Valor Hour, “Ruthless” David Robins, who makes his lightweight debut against Memphis’ Adam Denton. Robins talks about the weight cut down to 155 lbs, his expectations for the fight, Denton being scrappy, wanting to make his own openings and taking advantage of them, and really liking how he feels at the lower weight. He also talks about how he’s been really focusing on his jiu-jitsu in his training and he’s confident this slug fest won’t go to the scorecards.

Finally, the guys recap UFC Minneapolis and the big win by Francis Ngannou and look ahead to this weekend’s UFC 23 headlined by Jon Jones battling Thiago Santos.
