This week Steph and Ash talk with the legendary voice of football, Gene Deckerhoff. Gene is the radio play-by-play announcer of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the past 35 years. He also served as the longtime voice of the Florida State Seminoles, calling games for the football, men’s basketball, and baseball teams. He has been inducted into both the State of Florida Sports Hall of Fame and the Florida State University Athletics Hall of Fame. In addition, Gene has broadcast games for the Arena Football League’s Orlando Predators and Tampa Bay Storm as a television play-by-play announcer and voices the P.A. announcer for EA Sports Madden NFL, NCAA Football and Arena Football video games. Gene has traveled all over the world announcing, which requires an extreme amount of preparation and organization. He talks about what he does to prepare for a game, how he got to where he is, and what life is like now. Listen up and Fire the Canons!!!
Boss Bites:
• It’s better to be over prepared than not. (Gene spends 8-12 hours of preparation for each game!)
• Do something that you love and it will never feel like work.
